About us

Principal Architect

Founding Principle John DeSalvo, a licensed professional in both the USA and Germany, takes the lead on all projects within the firm. He studied at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where he graduated with honors; moving to Berlin, Germany he worked for Sir Norman Foster on the Reichstag Parliament project then Helmut Jahn in both Berlin and Chicago, heading high-rise residential and commercial projects internationally. John founded his JDD Architects in 2008.
In addition to his architectural practice, John is a free hand illustrator for Norton Press Publications architectural pocket guide book series. He lectures frequently on rendering technique and has had numerous gallery exhibitions of his architectural drawings and paintings.
When not in the office John is an associate studio professor at The Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), initiated a freehand rendering course and has run a European travel abroad program. John also is curator of the IIT student’s submission to the SOFA/CONNECT – Sculptural Objects Functional Arts- exhibition in Chicago.

Dave Blanco

Intern Architect and Designer

David Blanco joined John DeSalvo Design as an intern in 2016. He graduated from IIT in 2016 with his M. Arch and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2014 with his Bachelor of Architectural Sciences and a minor in Landscape Architecture.

Dorothy Steinbach

Intern Architect and Designer

Dorothy Steinbach joined John DeSalvo Design as an intern in Spring 2017. She received a Bachelor’s of Science in Architecture with a minor in Sociology from Georgia Institute of Technology in Spring 2016. During her final year, she was a part of Georgia Tech’s Solar Decathlon 2017 Architecture Team. Prior to JDD, Dorothy worked with a local architecture firm in Douglasville, Georgia, where she gained further knowledge of interior design for both commercial and residential projects. She is currently working on her Masters of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology.

Nicholas Van Antwerp

Junior Architect and Designer

Nicholas Van Antwerp joined John DeSalvo Design as an intern in 2017 while working on his Masters of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology. He received his Bachelors of Science in Architecture from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2015. He spent his senior year studying architecture and urban planning in Spain at Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura del Vallés. Before joining John DeSalvo Design, Nicholas worked in a design build firm with a primary focus on corporate office and retail design.
